A great alternative to using a raw charcoal stick - some people don't like the feel of raw charcoal on their fingers, and the potential mess it can make.  Nice and tidy and able to be kept neat in this pencil form.
 
Please use a fixative over your charcoal sketches/drawings if you don't want them to smudge after you've finished your artwork.
